about
‘I Need To Go Home’ transports us to a night out on the town with friends - with feelings of being out of sync with the mood of the party and that abrupt realisation, familiar to most, that it’s not your scene in the slightest (“Am I the only one here who feels like they’ve woken to a bad dream?”). When we find ourselves in a place where we feel no sense of belonging there is often a real urgency in needing to escape it. The lyrical journey of ‘I Need To Go Home’ captures the inner chaos of attempting to fit into the crowd whilst honouring those intense gut emotions that signal that you’re in the wrong place.
lyrics
VERSE 1:
Thought if I took myself out
Danced under the lights with somebody
I could remind myself of a time I used to believe my life started new every night
PRE-CHORUS:
Play that part, couldn’t be too hard
I’ve done it before
But I see a glistening line of spilled red wine like a runway to the door
I think I need to go home
CHORUS:
Everything is upside down tonight
Everything I wanted feels wrong
I hear what they’re playing
It’s a bad imitation of a love song
I could stay but I need to go home
Somebody call me a car, I don’t belong
Somebody call me a car, oh
Just like what they’re playing
It’s a bad imitation of a love song
I could stay but I need to go home
VERSE 2:
Am I the only one here
Who feels like they’ve woken to a bad dream?
Seems like everybody has found El Dorado but this
golden city was hollow and I got so lost
PRE-CHORUS:
Played that part, couldn’t be too hard
I’ve done it before
But I see a glistening line of spilled red wine like a runway to the door
I think I need to go home
CHORUS:
Everything is upside down tonight
Everything I wanted feels wrong
I hear what they’re playing
It’s a bad imitation of a love song
I could stay but I need to go home
Somebody call me a car, I don’t belong
Somebody call me a car, oh
Just like what they’re playing
It’s a bad imitation of a love song
I could stay but I need to go home
POST-CHORUS:
I need to go home
I need to go home
I need to go home
I need to go home
I could stay but I need to go
BRIDGE:
Cause the disco ball just blinds me
And the girl dancing behind me is starting to cry into her drink
Man, what did I think I’d find here?
This light, this sensation, it’s a bad imitation
This night, my creation, it’s a bad imitation
Just like what they’re playing it’s a bad imitation of a past life
I could stay but I need to go home
CHORUS:
Everything is upside down tonight
Everything I wanted feels wrong
I hear what they’re playing
It’s a bad imitation of a love song
I could stay but I need to go home
Somebody call me a car, I don’t belong
Somebody call me a car, oh
Just like what they’re playing
It’s a bad imitation of a love song
I could stay but I need to go home
